시놉시스 Synopsis
매일 같은 노선으로 지하철을 운전하는 주인공. 무미건조한 일상을 보내던 중, 운행하는 선로 위에 갑자기 나타난 괴생명체를 마주하고 지하철을 급정차한다. 그와 승객들이 알 수 없는 이유로 기절하게 되고, 깨어났을 때 본인들이 두꺼비로 변했다는 것을 깨닫는다. 한순간에 두꺼비로 변한 자신. 무엇이 그를 그렇게 변화시켰는지 알아내기 위해 그는 찾아 헤매인다.
The jaded subway operator in NYC finds his life repetitive and tedious. Once he and fellow passengers turn into toads, the operator explores through portals to find what causes the transformation.
연출의도 Purpose
뉴욕에서 회사생활을 할 때 밤낮 없는 야근을 하기 일쑤였다. 그날도 여느 날과 다름없이 퇴근 지하철에 올라타 유리창에 비친 내 얼굴을 바라보았다. 빠르게 지나가는 불빛들 앞에 내 얼굴은 점점 더 늙어 갔다. 생각에 빠진 잠시, 유리창 밖 어둠 속에서 움직이는 누군가를 발견하였다. 그것은 부랑자였을 수도 혹은 내가 알지 못하는 생명체일 수도 있다는 생각이 들었다.
반복되는 삶 속에서 내가 모르는 무엇인가가 저 미지의 세계로 넘나드는 상상을 하게 된 나는 그날 밤 이불을 뒤척이며 잠에 들지 못했다. 과연 이 일은 내가 하고 싶은 일이었는가? 내가 꿈꾸었던 세상을 살고 있는가?
After several over-nights in a row at work, I was in a subway car looking out the window. Seeing reflection of myself – I looked way too much aged compared to the day before.
Contemplating while looking at the reflection changing in every split of second, I saw something moving from the back of the lights. It could have been a homeless person, or an abnormal creature. Seeing the unknown in dark – it was striking.
I immediately realized it was a reflex of my desire wanting something new, something to explore. My life was repetitive with a bunch of ‘same-old, same-old’s. Bits and bits of my thoughts started to float.
That night, lying on my bed, the floating pieces of my thoughts were gathered into my notes.
Here, I question: Are you living in the world that you dreamed of?
